So you want to be a librarian?

With the summer semester about to start in less than a week, I thought I share on what you need to be a librarian.

Here’s a few things you need to know to become a librarian.

1. Majority of librarian positions will require you to have your ALA accreditation from a Masters of a Library and Information Science. I live is California so it’s a must.
2. There are 3 schools in California that offer a Masters in Library and Information Science.
   • UCLA
   • USC
   • San Jose State University (my school)
3. You don’t need to have any specific undergraduate degree but you do need a bachelors degree to apply.

I began my San Jose State University (SJSU) journey in the fall of 2021 and plan to graduate in the Spring of 2026. What love about the program is you have the option to apply for Special Session which allows you to take all your classes online. It is also one of the more affordable degrees in California. Of course you can go to any school you want, just make sure it’s ALA accredited.
