Did you know you can take thousands of online courses for free with just a library card? Thanks to Gale Presents: Udemy, many libraries now offer access to high-quality video courses in tech, business, design, wellness, and more for free!
I recently discovered that Long Beach Public Library offers free access to Udemy through Gale, and I’m currently using it to take a WordPress course that helped me build this very website!
What is Gale Presents: Udemy?
Gale Presents: Udemy is a curated version of Udemy, made available through libraries and institutions. With thousands of video-based courses taught by industry experts, it’s a goldmine for personal and professional growth.
Which Local Libraries Offer Free Access?
Here are just a few in Los Angeles County and Orange County:
- Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL)
- Long Beach Public Library

How to Access Udemy for Free Through Your Library
Step 1: Visit the Gale Udemy Portal
Go to https://link.gale.com/apps/UDEMY
Step 2: Find Your Library
Enter your ZIP code or the name of your library to see if your institution participates.
Step 3: Log In with Your Library Card
You’ll be redirected to your library’s login page. Enter your library card number and your PIN.
Step 4: Create a Udemy Account
Once inside, you’ll create a free Udemy account. Be sure to use a unique password and write it down! I made the mistake of forgetting mine and had a tough time resetting it.
Step 5: Start Learning!
You’re in! Browse thousands of courses in topics like:
- Personal development
- Business
- Office Productivity
- Lifestyle
- Photography and video
- Health & wellness
