My Baby’s First Playdate Experience
Watching my daughter grow and experience new things is one of the most exciting parts of motherhood. At 9 months old, she’s starting to observe the world more, and I really want her to start playing with other kids. So, I reached out to one of my best friends from college, who has a 15-month-old niece, I thought it would be a great idea to set up a playdate!
Meeting at San Martin Park
Of course, I was the exited one because my daughter had no idea she had a playdate planned! We decided to meet at San Martin Park in Lakewood, which was not only halfway between us but also a place I used to go as a kid. It was the perfect spot.
This was also my first time seeing my friend’s niece in person. I had only seen pictures before, and she was just as cute as can be. At first, the girls didn’t pay much attention to each other. They were just taking in their surroundings. But once we laid out a blanket and put some toys down, they became more aware of each other.
Playing and Learning Together
My friend’s niece was interested in my daughter’s toys, and my daughter was equally curious about hers. They even started sharing snacks well, as much as two little ones can “share” at this age! It was funny watching them interact. They knew the other was there but were perfectly content doing their own thing, side by side.
Beyond the playdate, it was nice to be outside and see other families enjoying the park. I even ran into another mom, and we swapped stories about sleep patterns and the never-ending adjustment to new mom life. The park really is a great place to meet other parents! I’m already looking forward to setting up another play date, hopefully with better weather since the sun kept hiding, and the wind made it a little chilly.
