My daughter is about to turn 10 months old and I’m constantly trying to think of new stuff for us to do. Since it’s Springtime, we do a pinic everyday on our front lawn as long as it’s not too cold. She’s really enjoying crawling and grabbing leaves and flowers. It’s amazing how in just a week she can crawl like nothing. Before she could only do the army crawl. Everyone says it won’t be long before she starts walking and that’s when the real fun begins.
To spark some ideas for you and your little, below are some sensory play suggestions I came across trying to figure out how to fill our days. I also paired with some board books that are fun.

I paired a book with each sensory activity including a Spanish-English bilingual option. My husband currently reads the Spanish version of books at night while I read English is the day. We hope it helps her grasp both languages at the same time.
Spring Sensory Play Activities + Book Pairings
1. Hello, Spring! by Shelley Rotner
Celebrate spring with bright photos of blooming flowers, buzzing bees, and outdoor adventures.
Sensory Play Ideas:
Nature Walk Sensory Bag: Collect baby safe petals and leaves on a walk, and seal them in a bag with clear gel for squishing fun.
Flower Petal Bin: Let your baby explore petals in a shallow bin add water and talk about colors and smells.
Early Literacy Tip: Describe everything your baby touches to build vocabulary “soft petal,” “green leaf,” “yellow flower.”
2. Little Blue Truck’s Springtime by Alice Schertle
A fun lift-the-flap board book featuring animals, sounds, and spring adventures. (Our favorite because my best friend from high school gave us a copy)
Sensory Play Ideas:
Pom-Pom Bunny Tail Bin: Fill a bin with soft pom-poms and small scoops. Pretend they are “bunny tails” for baby to explore! Animal Sound Play: Use stuffed animals or toys and make the sounds together as you read the story.
Early Literacy Tip: Animal sounds like “quack” and “baa” are often baby’s first words! Repeat them often to support early speech. My daughter loves when I make sounds while reading. She’s cracks up laughing.
3. Bebé Goes to the Beach / Bebé va a la playa by Susan Middleton Elya
This bilingual board book follows a lively baby’s beach day, mixing English and Spanish words throughout the story.
I love that this book takes place on the beach because my daughter loves the water. I can’t wait for summer to take her to the sand.
Sensory Play Ideas:
Beach Bin Sensory Play: Use kinetic sand or crushed graham crackers as a baby-safe “sand.” Add shells and small scoops. Water Play Station: Fill a bin with water and plastic toys. Use simple Spanish words like agua (water), salpicar (splash), and pala (shovel).
Early Literacy Tip: Exposing babies to two languages early helps with brain development and future language acquisition.
